It is a very powerful tool and worth your review. Click below to set up a free account.
Audible is an Amazon company that provides books which can be downloaded to your MP3 player, computer, iPod, iPhone, iTouch, iPad, Blackberry or Kindle. Yes Kindle. And not just books. Podcasts, newspapers (like the Wall Street Journal), magazines, radio, TV and original content. Type in a keyword and then sort the results by best sellers, customer rating, release date, length, price, author or title.

Greetings!
First time readers, welcome! Returning readers, welcome back! Heading into the Holiday season gives some of us time to reflect and some of us time to fret. Here is hoping you take some time to reflect and give thanks, leave the fretting to the whims of others.
We do not want to waste your time. Articles will contain generally less than 250 words. Please have a look and give us your feedback. By all means, forward to a friend using the link at the bottom of the Newsletter. Thanks. Questions? Email me at rmj@trif.com |

Happy Holidays?
Each month I struggle to decide on which topics will be the most enlightening and informative. I could tell you about the new TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) required for carriers picking up at Massport or the thousands of reported air safety lapses filed with NASA resulting in damage or evasive or emergency action. You can click the links if you want to know more.
No. This month, with the closing out of the year and the decade, I have two items which are not driven by transportation or technology, but rather health and well-being. All of us at Transportation Resources wish you a joyful holiday, a warm and Merry Christmas and pass along our hopes for a very Happy New Year. |

Quiet Time
A very wise and learned friend bestowed on me some sage advice a while back. She said spend an hour a day on yourself. A simple yet powerful suggestion. I have heeded these words with sobering determination. One of the ways I have found is quiet time. Some may call it meditation but that word carries some baggage. I like to think of it as quiet time for the mind. Different from sleep, it is a conscious effort to quiet the thoughts, problems, concerns and other distractions in your life. It is a time for peace.
Just consider the health benefits of 20 minutes of quiet time every day; lowers oxygen consumption, decreases respiratory rate, increases blood flow, slows the heart rate (helpful to people with high blood pressure), reduces anxiety, increases serotonin production improving mood and behavior, enhances the immune system, reduces the activity of viruses and emotional distress and it improves concentration and mental strength.
Consider taking 20 minutes a day and do nothing. And lest you think there was no connection to technology, here is a link to the best iPad (iPhone as well) app (and I have reviewed more than two dozen) to help you get started. Simply Being

The China Study It has been a while since I read a book that impacted me as much as The China Study; by Dr. T. Colin Campbell . A good friend (thank you so much Valerie) suggested I read this book and I was taken aback. I guess I had been suspect for a long time, but it has changed my perspective about what I eat, how I buy my food, how special interest groups have affected our diet for fifty or more years, and the impact diet has on the health of ourselves and our children. It is based (as quoted by the New York Times) on the "most comprehensive large study ever undertaken of the relationship between diet and the risk of developing disease." The research project culminated in a 20-year partnership of Cornell University, Oxford University, and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine, a survey of diseases and lifestyle factors in rural China and Taiwan. More commonly known as the China Study, this project eventually produced more than 8000 statistically significant associations between various dietary factors and disease.
If you have concerns about high blood pressure, heart disease or cancer, please take the time to read or listen to this book.
You can purchase this book at Amazon in hard cover, paper back or Kindle: The China Study
Let me know if it doesn't change the way you think. |
