History

Taking Flightis a service mark and web domain owned by Transportation Resources, Inc. (TRI). TRI was founded in 1982 as a tariff publishing company publishing tariffs for motor carriers throughout New England. The business was made possible by the Motor Carrier Act of 1980 which allowed carriers to publish and file their own tariffs with the Interstate Commerce Commission and Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities. With offices next to the 1835 Old Town Hall at 33 Main Street, TRI began word processing with Tandy Model 12 computers running the Scripsit word processing software. It was evident that computers were going to be a major factor in the evolution of TRI.

In 1988, TRI relocated to an even older dwelling in the center of town at 9 Waushacum Avenue. The commercially zoned building and property was built in 1840 but had been the home of the Davidson family since the 1940's. The original bark covered birch and oak timbers are still a major part of the structural integrity of the building although TRI has relocated to a more modern facility at 50 Leominster Road.

Although our history began in transportation and logistics, computers and the software they require has been our life-blood for more than a quarter century. With the combination of young and old, we have been able to move with the times and the technology. Keeping pace with new advances in science and technology has been a cornerstone of what TRI is all about and has helped us remain competitive through the years.

Today we enjoy a great facility with ample space to host our own server farm, class room, library and offices for administration, support and programming. We have become development partners with Microsoft, Apple, Intuit, GFI and Motorola which allows us to develop software for a wide range of devices and applications.

We look forward to the next quarter century and are excited to see the technology of the coming years.

What People Say...

TRI has satisfied all of our needs with regard to our Information Technology, Hardware, Custom Software Development, e-mail, Web Design, and System Maintenance. All of this while also developing a trust and friendship that I feel has allowed both companies to become successful.
S.M.

The problem you solved was making me understand what needed to be done, how it was done, and putting the web site together for us.
C.C.

One of the most comforting aspects of our system is that TRI put it together in a way to plan for expansions that we never even would have thought that the rest of the world would want us to do some day.
F.J.

Computer issues have been resolved and programs run much smoother.
S.D.

TRI is a problem solver for us – whenever we need changes to existing programs we have always been able to pickup the phone and get help.
K.D.

We have relied on TRI to develop and maintain our Business software and hardware technical systems for almost 20 years. A large percentage of the growth of our business can be linked to their ability to understand our needs and combine their knowledge and technical skills to provide the necessary training to our staff, which has lead us to be one of the most successful companies of our profession.
G.L.

One of the greatest assets TRIF has for us as a transportation company is the years of experience they have in the transportation field. Understanding our business certainly gives them an advantage to solving problems, writing software and knowing what we need.
